Kahoot, Edpuzzle and WordWall

Learning has become more enjoyable in recent years, thanks to the many exciting tools and applications available in this virtual world. Using digital games in education or digital game-based learning is becoming increasingly popular because there is a rise in the variety, availability, and use of digital educational and commercial games (Pivec, 2007).

During my study in the Innovating learning and teaching course, I have learned different useful and interesting tools. One of them is Kahoot.

Kahoot is a learning application that provides exciting games, quizzes, and many other opportunities. Quizzes are created and shared within a few minutes. With the help of Kahoot conducting interactive lessons are very simple.

For instance, if you are introducing a new topic, at the beginning of your Kahoot, you may present some key points to introduce new content so students have a better idea of what to expect in this lesson. Kahoot can be used to teach interactive lessons and engage students both in class and in virtual learning.

Another interesting tool for me is Edpuzzle. I like this tool because you can edit video and audio. You can also search and save videos on Youtube. Before searching videos, you can choose subject aria, and grade levels. If you entered your school or university name when you created an account in Edpuzzle in the section “My school” you can find downloaded videos from your colleagues. In my online course, I also used this tool. I found the video which was suitable for the content and students level then I saved it. When My student will watch the video at the end of the video they will see a question that they should answer. They can answer the question with an audio record or in written form. I think it gives them to understand the topic deeper.

If the teacher wants to send the class time with an engaging creative video, I think Edpuzzle is the best choice. Edpuzzle is a tool that helps teachers and students to create interactive online videos for lessons. Teachers and students also can share their Eddpuzzle with other people and can develop their skills and knowledge of technology.

Another feature of Edpuzzle that I loved was the audionote feature. Although it takes some adjusting to listen to your own voice, adding audionotes to a video can make it meaningful for the students and allows explain the topic in your own words. Zapton is a cool resource that allows adding images, texts, and quizzes to existing videos.  Overall I preferred Edpuzzle and thought it was more user-friendly and that is why I selected it. I will definitely use it as a form of pre-teaching and re-teaching units for students. It will allow me to ensure students are prepared for class by watching the video and answering the questions or reading comments as they go along.

The next interesting and very useful tool is for me Wordwall. Wordwall is a free online tool for creating learning activities. Teachers can use this tool to enter the topic they want to cover in class into the Wordwall and receive a variety of ready-made, fully customizable activities like quizzes, word games, maze chases, and much more. You can also design your own activity from scratch. Furthermore, the majority of Wordwall activities are available in both interactive and printable formats.

Advantages of Wordwall:

It’s very simple to use, and all steps are thoroughly explained.

  • It’s a useful tool for teachers who are short on time or who are not very comfortable with technology.

Any materials you create can be shared with the entire Wordwall community – and you can also use materials created by other users.

Ready-made content for a variety of school subjects and levels can be found and edited

It’s especially useful in mixed-level classes, where you can assign quick finishers an activity that they can access online, even from their phone.

Any pre-made activity can be edited. If you find an activity that does not work for your class, you can easily modify it to meet the needs and interests of your students.

In addition, it is available in a variety of languages. One disadvantage is that the free account only allows for the creation of up to five activity types. After that, you’ll have to delete activities in order to create new ones.

My reflection on the module

This is my final post, and it is about the module Innovating learning and teaching. I thoroughly enjoyed this module and its content. I've picked up a lot of ideas that I'll definitely use in the future, and it's made me very excited.  Although I have thoroughly enjoyed writing posts, the last few weeks have flown by. As this is my final post on my blog, I'd like to summarize and reflect on everything I've learned from this course. My knowledge and skills at the beginning of the module Innovating learning and teaching were very small. I am not going to lie, I never really thought about learning and teaching online could be interesting and enjoyable. This course assisted me in being successful and expanding my knowledge of online learning and teaching. I believe that learning about various tools and platforms piqued my interest in creating the blog and online course.  And there are numerous online tools and platforms that I am aware of and have begun to use success...
